This position reports to the Parole Board Administration Manager.

The Parole Board Administration Office provides administrative support to a nine-member appointed board for a variety of parole and clemency matters. This position interacts directly with agency staff, the public, offenders and parolees throughout parole processes.

Duties Include:

• Providing administrative support to the corrections analyst and parole board administration manager for the parole revocation and dispositional hearing processes, to include:

  • Coordinating the schedule of cases
  • Auditing computed dates on offenders received into Department of Corrections facilities on parole violations
  • Reviewing court records systems to determine current sentences and/or pending charges
  • Providing information on offenders' discharge dates and lengths and structure of sentences
  • Preparing investigative summary sheets, violation packets, and legal findings for offenders
  • Entering results into an offender management system
  • Copying, scanning and filing documents in an electronic records system
  • Attending and assisting with dispositional hearings, which includes travel to the South Dakota Women's Prison in Pierre once or twice monthly


• Serving legal papers to offenders inside the Department of Corrections facilities

• Assisting with the delivery of institutional mail

• Assisting with parole board week

  • Using the offender management system to create automated board slips and investigative summary reports
  • Auditing offender files to make sure all of the required documents are present prior to hearing dates
  • Hosting parole hearings and completing board slips with the results


• Performing administrative functions to ensure parole program operations function consistently and efficiently

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

A good understanding of a state correctional system.

Knowledge of:

  • Laws and Government - Federal and state laws, administrative rules and regulations, court procedures, precedents, and executive orders applicable to parole programs;
  • Policy - Department of Corrections and Board of Pardons and Paroles policies and procedures;
  • Corrections - Principles of evidenced based practices in corrections; and
  • Technology - Utilize computerized data systems.


Ability to demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Oral Comprehension - Listen to and understand information; interpret and comprehend agency goals and objectives, policies and procedures;
  • Oral Expression - Communicate information concisely and efficiently; favorably present and promote departmental priorities, services, and actions internally and externally;
