This is a full-time position with the Department of Corrections. For more information on the Department of Corrections, please visit http://doc.sd.gov .

This position will be responsible for managing, organizing, and facilitating parole programming, to include multiple co-horst (currently, parole offers Moving On and Thinking for Change), to DOC offenders (training for these programs will be provided). Program facilitation will occur both in-person and virtually. This position will also develop and implement a job search program for parolees struggling to gain and maintain employment. The person in this position will maintain metrics related to parole programs, including the number of participants, referrals, class schedule/rosters, and outcomes that will be reported to the Director of Parole monthly. This person will be trained in parole supervision strategies and work closely with parole agents to ensure the right offenders are placed in the applicable programming.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four years of related experience is preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
  • principles, methods, and procedures to facilitate an acceptable reintegration and/or continued adjustment of persons under community supervision;
  • the attitude, problems, and behavior of offenders under community supervision;
  • human behavior and interpersonal relationships;
  • basic terminology and concepts of corrections and community supervision;
  • legal terminology and procedures;
  • evidence based programs related to corrections;
  • individual counseling techniques.


Skill to:

  • represent DOC and the Parole Division when collaborating with community partners and law enforcement entities;
  • document logically, accurately, and concisely pertinent information and decisions;
  • communicate information clearly and accurately;
  • manage time to meet policy required deadlines;
  • interact with persons under community supervision and others to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with them;
  • maintain impartiality in dealing with persons under community supervision;
  • make educated and swift decisions regarding the appropriate response to offender challenges.


Ability to:

  • facilitate programming to offenders;
  • plan, organize, schedule, and assist offenders in meeting supervision requirements, to include interactions with community resources;
  • maintain composure under stressful conditions;
  • work independently and as a team member to ensure divisional goals are met.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Safety Training (OC exposure, Defensive Tactics, Taser exposure (optional));
  • Case Management;
  • Evidence Base Practices.
