Position Summary:
The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for managing patient account balances through professional communication, timely follow-up, and effective collections practices. This role serves as contact for patients regarding billing inquiries, payment arrangements, and insurance resolution, ensuring a positive patient experience consistent with Orthopedic Institute’s standards of excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle incoming and outgoing patient calls regarding billing statements, balances, and payment options.
- Review patient accounts for accuracy and completeness, verifying insurance payments and adjustments.
- Establish and maintain patient payment arrangements in accordance with company policies.
- Follow up on overdue accounts through phone calls and correspondence to secure timely payments.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies or claim denials in coordination with other business office team members.
- Maintain detailed documentation of account activity in the practice management system.
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring all interactions reflect empathy and professionalism.
- Support business office goals related to aging accounts, collections, and overall revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in healthcare billing and collections required.
- Knowledge of insurance processes, medical terminology, and electronic billing systems preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary education in business or healthcare administration preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
