The Heavy Equipment Operator ensures the safe operation of heavy equipment in the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for the purpose of transferring and loading recycling materials in an efficient and safe manner; operates one or more types of heavy equipment including skid steer, forklift, and payloader.
POSITION DETAILS
Location
305 E. 50th Street, Sioux Falls, South Dakota (East of the airport)
Schedule
Monday-Thursday: 6:00 am - 5:00 pm, Friday: Noon-5pm (47+ hours/week), Additional hours may be required occasionally.
Hourly Pay
$23.00 - $28.00 (DOE); Potential Pay Increases at 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, then annually
Responsibilities
- Operates equipment loading recyclables into the hopper, loading scrap metal, sorting materials and glass into trucks.
- Inspects recyclables for evidence of unacceptable or hazardous waste in materials.
- Break bales, maneuver materials, pull contaminants to avoid entering the system
- Performs pre/post operation inspection of equipment in accordance with safety standards as well as state and federal regulations. Performs cleaning and minor service on equipment; refers more complicated mechanical issues to fleet management for repair.
- Able to operate a radio clearly and professionally, good customer service skills
- Understand grading and communicate with the office/scale accordingly.
- Ability to safely multi-task in a busy environment
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements
- At least 18 years or older.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and take part in a drug and alcohol program.
- Basic reading, writing, math and mechanical skills.
- Proven commitment to work and safety, excellent communication & problem solving skills required.
- Stable work history, verifiable with an employee reference check.
- Able to report to work on time according to your scheduled shift. Good attendance is mandatory.
Work Experience Requirements
- Payloader equipment operational experience required
- Positive, team-oriented individual who has a strong work ethic, committed to safety, customer driven, open to personal and professional training and development, and results-oriented
- Must pass equipment operational tests.
Physical requirements
- Lifting/Carrying up to 50 lbs frequently, 51-100 lbs Occasionally
- Must be able to stand/walk, climb in and out of equipment. Twisting/turning, bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling may be part of this position.
