Reports To: Director of Human Resources

Work Schedule: Full-time position requiring flexibility in scheduling with payroll run bi-weekly. This position is based in Sioux Falls, SD with daily onsite attendance required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of payroll and related accounting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate records and confidential files while working closely with the Human Resources and Finance teams. The Payroll Specialist manages all aspects of payroll, from processing to reporting, and prepares and distributes monthly payroll reports. Effective communication with employees regarding payroll inquiries and concerns is essential to this role. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS STATEMENT(S)

Primary Duties
Bi-Weekly Payroll:

  1. Work with Finance regarding grant requirements and set up employees to ensure proper record keeping.
  2. Review leave reports, times sheets, and other related personnel records for accuracy.
  3. Proof hours and transfer to payroll.
  4. Maintain and ensure minister payroll – HOUSE, SER, deducts and federal adjustment.
  5. Ensure proper payments of employee taxes and benefits.
  6. Prepare payroll reports and distribute as needed.
  7. Print checks as needed.
  8. Perform related finance duties as assigned.

Monthly:

  1. Ensure the payments of employee benefits.
  2. Reconcile payroll accounts.
  3. Prepare monthly reports and distribute as needed.
  4. Review 401(k) eligibility reports.

Quarterly:

  1. Prepare and submit quarterly reports including 941, Multiple Worksite Report, and Re-Employment Wages.
  2. Reconcile taxes for W-2 preparation.

Year End:

  1. Prepare W-2’s
  2. Audits including Worker’s compensation, 401(k), and Finance.
  3. Assist finance with reports for budgeting and cost reports.
  4. Census for 401(k)

As Needed:

  1. Employment Verifications.
  2. Reports for various entities.
  3. Employee communications.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s and/or equivalent experience. Familiarity with standard payroll procedures and regulations.

Experience: Computer Experience required; familiarity with Great Plains Dynamics is helpful, extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Excel is required.

Skills: Preferred knowledge of Ultimate Software/UKG. Good communication skills and a team player a must. Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a regular basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

A. Ability to Stand, Walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak and bend on a daily basis

B. Capability to Lift, carry, push or pull up to 25 lbs infrequently with moving payroll files and boxes.
