Job Type: Part-time or Full-time

Hourly Range $30.00 - $42.00 per hour

Experience:

Shifts: Morning and After school (Preferred)

POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing individual therapy programs for children with special needs. Some local travel required. This position is responsible or helping children grow to their full potential under the companies’ core values of Excellence, Service and Dignity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS Develop, coordinate, and implement individual therapy programs. • Participates in a comprehensive treatment and/or educational team. • Evaluates client needs, including (but not limited to) sensory development, fine motor skills, muscle tone, range of motion, muscle strength, splinting, visual skills, visual-perceptual skills and activities of daily living. Evaluates special programs as appropriate (i.e. seating/positioning, power mobility, UE casting, and assistive technology). • Communicates, consults, and works closely with parents/guardians, other team members, external agencies, and other professionals on therapy programs, goals, progress, adaptive equipment, and other recommendations. • Consults with physicians, primary nurses, and other healthcare professionals to meet the medical needs of individual clients. • Prepares and maintains therapy records and agency documentation. • Follows agency infection control policies and procedures and monitors conditions and maintenance of patient adaptive equipment, recommending appropriate adjustments and improvements. Prepares and conducts professional in-services, programs, and marketing visits. • Provides leadership and support in specific areas of program development as assigned. • Supervises Occupational Therapy student affiliations. • Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants as needed and as South Dakota licensure laws require. • Performs related duties, including driving company vehicles to assigned locations, maintaining orderliness of assigned therapy areas, identifying needs for equipment and supplies, identifying repair and calibration of equipment, and completing equipment and supply requisitions.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master’s degree in their respective field from an accredited school and current licensure in the state of South Dakota required. (Individuals who have obtained a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy in the past are grandfathered in and may apply.) Valid South Dakota driver’s license and clean driving record required. Prior Occupational Therapy experience with pediatric population preferred. Employees may be asked to complete Personal Crisis Management training. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Technical competence to use computers and software utilized by the organization. • Ability to communicate effectively. • Knowledge of electronic medical documentation. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is performed in a variety of environments including the clinic, client’s home, school classrooms, contracting agencies, or other healthcare facilities. This position has extensive personal contact with patients, family members, educational personnel, and other healthcare staff when implementing individual therapy programs. This position has been evaluated as a Level I in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) definition of Occupational Exposure to blood borne pathogens). Level I: Positions in this category are required to perform tasks which involve exposure to blood, potentially infectious body fluids, or hazardous waste. Requires full range of body motion including the ability to stoop, kneel, reach, stand and walk for extensive periods of time; push, pull and grasp items, finger dexterity, eye/hand coordination, and the ability to assist in lifting patients weighing 35 pounds, using proper body mechanics.
