Why Join the Department of Game, Fish and Parks?
Working as a seasonal employee at the Pete Lien & Sons Shooting Sport Complex, one quickly discovers that South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is more than just a state agency - it's a community built on tradition, stewardship, and a passion for the outdoors. Seasonal staff play a vital role in supporting the department's mission, ensuring that the shooting complex remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for everyone who visits.

From daily operations to special events, seasonal team members are part of what makes this 400-acre complex a premier destination for hunters, recreational shooters, and law enforcement personnel. The facility's two distinct areas - north and south - offer a variety of shooting opportunities, and seasonal staff help ensure these spaces are maintained to the highest standards.

A typical day might include prepping shooting bays, restocking materials, cleaning public areas, checking in with visitors, and assisting with range events. The work is hands-on, fast-paced, and diverse - and that's what makes it exciting.

Seasonal employees are often the first point of contact for the public, and their positive attitude and helpfulness directly impact the experience of those using the facility. Whether its answering questions, helping new shooters navigate the range, or pitching in during a shooting competition, they are proud to contribute to something bigger than themselves.

What stands out most to many seasonal employees is the sense of teamwork. The staff - from the Range Coordinator to the volunteers and other seasonals - are supportive, communicative, and focused on a shared goal: providing a professional, safe, and enjoyable shooting environment for all.
