REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

High School Diploma. Two-year technical education or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

One year of supervisor/management experience is preferred. Must have three years' experience in the field of horticulture, (tree, shrubs, lawn care and irrigation systems). Other experience preferred in construction and maintenance of building components such as shelving; framework, drywall, tape/texture; concrete finishing; parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, and related areas.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing, standing, stooping and walking. Occasional crawling, climbing, crouching and reaching.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work unsupervised. Current State Vehicle operator's license; ability to operate all vehicles in the district fleet safely; insurable. Good attendance. Ability to communicate and follow written and oral direction. Ability to demonstrate recognition of equipment malfunction. License for herbicide and pesticide application. Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training. Subject to call beyond the regular workday and week when emergency situations arise which require immediate attention.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

This position is a working position and is subject to on-call seven days per week and beyond the regular workday on a rotating schedule. The employee's home commute must be less than 10 miles to the nearest Sioux Falls Public School building.

1. In absence of Plant Maintenance Facilities and Grounds Manager, serves as immediate supervisor of staff, assigns and monitors daily work, inspects work and assists with staff evaluations. Coordinates work order schedule and staff assignments with Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
2. Assists in the training/re-training of new and long-term Operational Service's employees.
3. Responds to facility emergencies when needed.
4. Performs and assists staff with site maintenance and repair work at all District facilities, such as; concrete and asphalt repair; operating equipment to clean playgrounds and parking lots; building repair, tree, shrub, lawn care maintenance. snow removal, including operating truck-mounted snowplows and sanding equipment.
5. Performs and assists staff in building repair and preventive maintenance at all District facilities, such as roof repair; glass replacement; masonry repair; interior and exterior finishes; doors, windows and hardware; and playground equipment.
6. Performs and assists staff in remodel and construction work at all District facilities, such as new or replacement walls, floors and ceilings; installing sheetrock and paneling; plastering and painting; construct and/or install corkboards and bulletin boards; construct and/or install furniture such as shelves, cabinets, counters and equipment; install playground equipment and fences.
7. Performs and assists staff in providing miscellaneous maintenance services at all District facilities, such as: replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes where scaffold is needed; remove graffiti from surfaces; deliver and/or move supplies, materials, furniture and equipment.
8. Performs work and assists staff on remodeling projects when needed.
9. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment. Makes recommendations for supplies and equipment to manager.
10. Works a revised schedule during emergency periods and substitutes for other maintenance staff when necessary.
11. Shares responsibility for holiday, extended day and weekend activities.
12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

PAY INFORMATION

Level NX, Starting at $32.34 per hour

Pay day is the last working day of each month.

HOURS & FTE

Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a 30-minute unpaid break

1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 12 months
