Plumbing Inspectors keep the citizens of South Dakota safe by ensuring plumbing installations meet the requirements of the Uniform Plumbing Code. This position has daily contact with licensees and members of the public working under homeowner permits. This position will cover (but are not limited to) the following counties: Fall River, Ogalala Lakota, Bennett, Jackson, Custer, and Pennington.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with the Department of Labor & Regulation - Plumbing Commission. This position involves extensive travel daily (some overnight stays will be expected). The incumbent must be able to do onsite inspections, which may include ladders in and out of construction site basements or crawlspaces. Licenses and Certifications: - Active Plumber or Plumbing Contractor license.
- Valid Driver's license.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: - 2 years of experience as a licensed Plumber or Plumbing Contractor, ability to plan efficient inspection routes to minimize driving time, good time management skills, and ability to effectively communicate.
Knowledge of: - Uniform Plumbing Code; and
- applicable laws, rules, and local ordinances governing plumbing regulations and installations.
Skill to: - apply the plumbing code during inspections of installations; and
- computer and keyboarding to write understandable and sufficiently detailed reports documenting inspection results and discrepancies.
Ability to: - thoroughly inspect plumbing installation work;
- communicate the results of inspections clearly and effectively;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, licensees, and co-workers;
- plan inspection routes to ensure inspections are performed in a timely manner while minimizing driving time and wait time for inspections.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
