Summary:
The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is seeking a qualified individual to fill a key position as a member of the Transition Team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the continued evolution of a state-of-the-art service delivery system that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) across South Dakota.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of community support providers and current waiver programs, along with the ability to work collaboratively with individuals, families, and system partners to ensure the community-based developmental disabilities system continues to evolve in response to the changing needs of South Dakotans with ID/DD.
The Transition Team's role is to support the progressive development of the developmental disabilities system. This position is responsible for the development and administration of human services programs within DDD, including establishing high- acuity supports and strategies and providing technical assistance. The individual in this role will work directly with Community Support Providers, systemic partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of program participants.
Additionally, this position plays a critical role in promoting choice and self-determination by ensuring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have meaningful options and opportunities to be active participants and contributing members of their communities.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:- a high level of experience working within the ID/DD support services field, experience social work, psychology, business/public administration, or other human service-related fields is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- disability practices;
- person-first language;
- person-centered practices;
- services and supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities;
- best practices in positive behavioral supports, behavior intervention practices;
- applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to developmental disabilities.
Skills:
- in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word;
Ability to:
- establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships within DDD as well as with stakeholders;
- demonstrate compassion, respect, courtesy, and tact in all interactions;
- communicate information clearly, effectively, and accurately;
- interpret and implement state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to developmental disabilities;
- assume initiative and willingness for continuous learning;
- exhibit sound decision-making in the performance of assigned responsibilities;
- effectively plan and organize work activities, adjust to multiple demands and prioritize tasks to complete assignments with a high level of quality within established timeframes;
- adapt approach or content of communication to the needs of the audience;
- work closely with other DDD employees to effectively and efficiently complete assigned work;
- assume initiative with minimal supervision;
- frequently travel within the state and occasionally out of state.
