The Department of Corrections is committed to providing meaningful work opportunities that develop vocational skills, promote accountability, and support successful reentry. This position oversees Pheasantland Industries' (PI) sales, customer service, and workforce development functions within a Correctional Facility setting. The foreman assists in the driving revenue growth, enhancing customer relationships, and is responsible for implementing structured workforce development through the Pheasantland Opportunity Plan (POP).
This role works closely with shop operations, internal departments, and external partners to ensure alignment between production capabilities, customer needs, and workforce training outcomes.
Summary:
The sales, customer service, and workforce development manager is responsible for the overall leadership sales operations and customer engagement through the Pheasantland Industries' (PI) Customer Contact Center, as well as directing workforce development initiatives. This position supervisors incarcerated workers assigned to customer service and sales roles while ensuring compliance with safety, security, and Department of Correction policies. This role plays a critical part in expanding business opportunities, improving customer service experience, and preparing incarcerated individuals for successful employment upon release.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees the Pheasantland Industries' (PI) Customer Contact Center.
- Assists, through the PI Customer Service Center, to develop and implements strategies to increase revenue, expand product offerings, and grow customer base.
- Manages customer relationships to ensure satisfaction, retention, and repeat business through the PI Customer Contact Center.
- Serves as a fill in for shop foreman or operational leaders as needed.
- Insurance compliance with Department of Corrections policies, procedures, and security protocols.
- Maintains accurate records, reports, and documentation.
- Resolves customer concerns service issues and operational challenges.
- Analyzes processes and implements improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and profitability.
- Collaborates with shop foreman to align customer demand with production capabilities.
- Aligns workforce development efforts with current labor market needs.
- Establishes and maintains partnerships with employers and community organizations to support reentry and job placement.
- Collaborates with internal departments (Education and Programming, Re-entry) to maximize development opportunities.
- Identifies skill gaps and implements targeted training solutions.
- Tracks and documents worker progress, certifications, and program outcomes.
- Meets with workers to develop individualized training and employment readiness plans.
- Leads the implementation of the Pheasantland Opportunity Plan (POP) for workforce development.
- Evaluates worker performance and provides coaching, mentoring, and corrective instruction.
- Assigns and monitors work tasks including responding to inquiries, preparing quotes, processing orders, and follow-ups.
- Develop scripts, workflows, and training materials to support effective customer engagement.
- Supervises and trains incarcerated workers and customer service, communication, and sales techniques.
- Manages offender communication, ensuring professionalism in all customer communications (phone, e-mail, and written correspondence).
- Overseas pricing strategies and collaboration with strap operations to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
- Identifies and pursues new business opportunities, partnerships, and contracts through the PI Customer Contact Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- experience in sales, customer service, business development, training, and/or, business and operations management;
- strong understanding of customer relationship management and sales processes;
- experienced development or delivering workforce training or employee development programs;
- ability to build partnerships with external organizations and employers;
- understanding your production or manufacturing environments (preferred);
- experience supervising or leading teams.
Knowledge of:
- Department of Corrections policies, procedures, and institutional operations;
- customer service principles, sales strategies, and business development practices;
- workforce development programs and training methodologies;
- behavior, attitudes, and supervision of incarcerated individuals;
- basic business operations, reporting, and performance tracking;
- computers, hardware and software applications including Microsoft, Global Shop, Ring Central, HubSpot, and other related software.
Ability to:
- lead and supervise a workforce and a secure environment;
- communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with diverse audiences;
- build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with direct and indirect supervisors, correctional staff, incarcerated workers, internal and external partners;

- train, mentor, and develop individuals with varying skill levels;
- work independently but understand when to ask for assistance.
Conditions of Employment:
- must successfully complete all required Department of Corrections training, including TPR.
- must maintain physical ability to perform job related duties. Must be able to respond to emergency situations and main control of assigned areas. Must pass required background checks and screenings.
- TB (tuberculosis) screening is required upon hire.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a Correctional Facility setting requires interaction with incarcerated individuals in a structured and secure environment
- Work may involve office, shop, and operational areas.
- Requires adherence to strict safety and security procedures.
