Produce Manager
Job Type: Full-time, hourly
Pay Range: $19-23 an hour

Position Summary
The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations of the produce department at Pomegranate Market. This includes supervision of team members, purchasing, inventory management, merchandising, and ensuring product quality and freshness. The Manager ensures that department operations align with Pomegranate’s commitment to natural, organic, and local foods, while meeting financial targets and providing an outstanding customer experience.
Operations & Product Management
Ensure consistent availability of fresh, high-quality produce.
Work with local farmers to procure the best in season local produce available.
Maintain clean, safe, and visually appealing displays.
Receive, inspect, and stock deliveries with attention to quality and rotation.
Follow organic handling protocols and health code regulations.
Ensure produce is labeled and signed correctly with pricing, organic status, and origin.
Place special orders and assist with customer requests courteously.
Customer Service & Leadership
Model exceptional customer service and lead by example.
Promote a team culture rooted in helpfulness, enthusiasm, and accountability.
Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and care.
Educate staff and customers on seasonal produce, growing practices, and preparation tips.
Financial & Inventory Management
Meet department sales, margin, and labor goals.
Track shrink and adjust practices to minimize loss.
Manage purchase orders, pricing, and vendor relationships.
Participate in monthly inventory counts and ensure accurate record keeping.
Staff Supervision & Training
Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate produce department team members.
Provide consistent feedback and conduct regular performance reviews.
Ensure team adherence to safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
Maintain an efficient, motivated, and well-informed team.
Merchandising & Marketing
Plan and maintain appealing displays that highlight seasonality and align with marketing initiatives.
Coordinate with the Marketing Team on featured items, sales, and sampling.
Stay up to date on industry trends and new product opportunities.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety in all produce areas.
Train team on proper equipment use and safe work practices.
Report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Uphold Pomegranate’s standards for organic and sustainable product handling.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in a grocery produce department, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Familiarity with organic and local produce preferred.
Experience with ordering systems and inventory management.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a cold, fast-paced environment.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
