Job Summary

The Product Development Technician supports the engineering and product development team by assisting in the preparation of sign designs, documentation, and prototypes. This role is ideal for someone with a technical mindset who enjoys working with CAD models, following detailed specifications, and helping translate creative ideas into manufacturable products. You will work closely with engineers, designers, and production teams to ensure timely and accurate execution of product designs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support engineers in preparing 3D CAD models and shop drawings for new signage using SolidWorks.
  • Assist in the assembly and evaluation of prototypes and test builds.
  • Prepare and organize documentation for customer specifications, part files, and materials.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to review designs for manufacturability and accuracy.
  • Help onboard and maintain customer specification data used by cross-functional departments.
  • Perform hands-on tasks such as cutting, assembling, or measuring components for testing or prototyping.
  • Use calipers, tape measures, or other tools to check tolerances and dimensions.
  • Participate in product testing to evaluate fit, function, or durability.
  • Maintain organized records of design iterations, test results, and engineering changes.
  • Assist in updating bills of materials, part lists, and digital file storage.
  • Follow all safety protocols in office and shop environments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a technical, drafting, or fabrication support role preferred (internships included).
  • SolidWorks or other CAD experience required; basic 3D modeling ability is a must.
  • Experience with hand tools, shop equipment, or light fabrication a plus.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction in a collaborative environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Core hours are Monday- Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with varying overtime. 

Mental & Physical Demands

Mental Demands:

  • Attention to detail when reviewing drawings, measurements, and designs.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
  • Flexibility in task switching to meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to take feedback and grow technical knowledge.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular use of a computer and CAD workstation.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and lifting when working on prototypes or samples.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Use of tools and safety equipment on the shop floor.
  • Visual acuity to inspect designs, parts, and prototypes.

Work Environment:

  • Office and light manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, shop dust, and temperature variations.
  • Must adhere to company safety guidelines and PPE requirements when applicable.
Job Requirements
