Job Description

Research, design, develop, and test electronic components and modules for commercial and industrial applications in various markets utilizing knowledge of electronic theory and materials properties. Activities with a wide variation or duties within structured procedures, policies, and practices coupled with limited supervision. Decision making in somewhat varied situations with a possibility of a range of outcomes.

  • Design electronic components, software or products for commercial and industrial applications.
  • Provide technical support and instruction to staff or customers regarding products of responsibility, assisting with specific, difficult in-service engineering.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Analyze product requirements, cost, and customer needs to determine feasibility of project and develop product plan.
  • Confer with engineers, customers, vendors or others to discuss existing and potential engineering projects or products.
  • Review and evaluate work of others, inside and outside the organization, to ensure effectiveness, technical adequacy and compatibility in the resolution of complex engineering problems.
  • Determine material and equipment needs and order supplies.
  • Inspect electronic equipment, instruments, products, and systems to ensure conformance to specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Prepare documentation containing information such as confidential descriptions and specifications of proprietary hardware and software, product development and introduction schedules, product costs, and information about product performance weaknesses.
  • Direct and coordinate activities concerned with manufacture, construction, operation, and modification of products.
  • Develop and perform testing procedures for electronic products and components.
  • Plan and develop modification and product line extensions for products of responsibility.
  • Plan and implement research, methodology, and procedures to apply principles of electronic theory to engineering projects.
  • Prepare necessary criteria, procedures, reports, and plans for successful conduct of the project with consideration given schedule and budget.
  • Research standards to identify how they apply to the product under development.
  • Analyze of quality related issues with quality assurance and make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Plan, design and implement reliability plans for products.
  • Provide input to the Product Manager for creating or modifying product specifications in alignment with the market needs.
  • Setting quality goals for new products and identifying potential improvements of products.
  • Work with outside manufacturing partners on the development, manufacturing and quality control of components and product.
