Job Description

High variety mig welding of steel components in a production setting.  Work includes tack welding and final welding of small batches of weldments using fixtures, tables, and tools.  Perform various weld operations based on blueprints and weld symbols.  Completes setup and adjustments of welding machine including gases and consumables as needed to produce quality welds.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Setup and adjustment of welding equipment including gases and consumables. 
  2. Performs troubleshooting of welding equipment.
  3. Performs job setups by positioning fabricated components using jigs and fixtures. Prepares the surfaces to be welded by grinding components.
  4. Performs various welding operations (examples: stitch, tack) following blueprint specifications and weld symbols.
  5. Performs quality control inspections and troubleshoots weld quality issues.
  6. Cleans welded components.
  7. May perform rework.
  8. May work with Engineering on new product welding procedures.
  9. Fabricates component parts using metal fab equipment. Also performs set-up and troubleshooting of fabrication equipment.
  10. Inspects and measures fabricated components for conformance to specifications and shop standards using measuring instruments.
  11. Accurately records work order information and inventory transactions.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Three to five years of experience in related weld position.
  3. Knowledge & ability to read blueprints with weld symbols and specifications.
  4. Good shop math skills. Practical application of fractions and decimals.
  5. Ability to wear welding specific personal protective equipment including helmet, gloves, and protective attire.
  6. Ability to operate grinders, deburring equipment, drill press, bandsaw, ironworker, and torch.
  7. Capable to performing standard measurements using various tools.
  8. Good troubleshooting skills.
  9. Ability to organize own workload.
  10. Ability to lift, push or pull 50 pounds alone.
  11. Ability to stand, stoop, bend, and reach on a regular basis.
  12. Ability to work overtime and/or weekends as needed to meet production schedules.
