The South Dakota Office of Accident Records, located within the Department of Public Safety, is looking for a motivated person to be part of its team. The ideal candidate for this
Program Assistant I will be expected to develop a working knowledge of the South Dakota Accident Records Database (SDARS). The successful candidate will learn all steps and processes necessary to submit motor vehicle crash reports from statewide law enforcement agencies. This will include training in the appropriate coding of first and secondary causes of motor vehicle crashes along with other critical data surrounding the crash. The position is also responsible for assisting in the integration of electronic crash submission documents through the Law Enforcement Officer System (LEOS) and Traffic and Criminal Software System (TraCS) into the SDARS database. Additional duties include answering questions via phone, completing financial reports for the sale of crash reports and distributing requested materials to law enforcement agencies. Some in-state travel may be required with this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- knowledge of Microsoft computer applications;
- ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate effectively with staff and law enforcement agencies;
- assist law enforcement agencies with questions and issues surrounding the submission process of official crash documents;
- maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with families of crash victims, the public, law enforcement agencies, and representatives of other industries that depend on crash data to accomplish their professional objectives;
- ability to work well with other colleagues in a professional and courteous manner;
- work effectively with other staff members and process information that will involve personal and sensitive information;
- be open to additional tasks and assignments within the office when the need arises.
