SD Animal Industry Board is looking for a
Program Assistant who possesses a commitment to service, rigorous attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Tasks include providing administrative and statistical work in gathering, compiling, tabulating, computing and editing basic data for statistical reports and studies, establishing and maintaining filing and data systems; preparing monthly and quarterly reports, writing and typing correspondence; and answering calls and issuing permits for livestock entering the state. Work will be completed in both state and federal systems. The successful candidate must be able to use technologies and tools for the transformation of raw data from public sources into meaningful and useful information in a database for analysis purposes, to perform data validation, and to create reports from this data. The goal is to aggregate data from multiple sources into a database that allows for the easy interpretation of large volumes of data. Common functions will be to extract, transform, and load data for search ability and reporting purposes.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Higher education or work experience related to meat inspection, animal agriculture or animal health field is preferred.
Knowledge:
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely;
- strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage deadlines effectively;
- proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint;
- applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Skills:
- human relations - interact with persons making inquiries about Animal Health programs to establish both effective communications and maintain effective working relationships, tactfully and in a business-like manner.
Abilities:
- read and comprehend Meat Inspection program related bulletins, manuals, rules, etc., to respond to factual/procedural inquiries and to interpret and apply them to determine program eligibility and compliance;
- write letters, memos, etc., provide clear and thorough information at a level appropriate for the persons making the inquiries;
- communicate orally to provide program information by telephone and in-person for data collection and reporting;
- adapt to continuous organizational and program changes to work constructively under pressure and cope with ambiguity;
- interpret objectives and develop practical applications.
