The Purchasing Logistics Assistant at Superior Steel Supply is a vital administrative and support role integral to our commitment to building lives as strong as our steel. Reporting Structure
Reports to Purchasing Administration Manager.
High-Level Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with SSS Transportation department.
- Build relationships with mill contacts for freight.
- Work with Receiving and Purchasing team members to resolve discrepancies on mill paperwork.
- Handle paperwork, ensuring accuracy and completeness in designated processes.
- Work with accounting to resolve discrepancies in freight charges.
- Attend and participate in Purchasing Team Meetings & Admin Team check-ins
- On Order Accrual - assist with status and follow up on ready-to-ship material
- Request and compile freight rates from mills for common truck, rail, and barge routes. Share internally as requested.
- Resolve freight issues with assistance from SSS Transportation department
Specific Day-to-day Responsibilities
- Provide and communicate updates on freight availability to the purchasing team on an ongoing basis
- Request updates from mills on releases, track information, send to SHIP IT to keep steel moving
- Complete Ready to Ship Report for vendors/mills with current material on order
- Enter mill-released loads & send to SSS Transportation dept. to print
- Enter barge rates; rail rates; unloading rates; truck rates & vehicle #’s
- Follow up on outstanding loads.
- Take charge of paperwork related to specific sections of coil moves, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Request mill BOL's; forward information to SHIP IT and processors (as needed).
Expectations:
- The position will be based in office in Sioux Falls, SD
- Some travel may be required but would be minimal.
- Efficiently coordinate logistics to ensure timely steel movements.
- Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills.
- Regularly communicate with other purchasing assistants to cross-train and fill in as needed
- Manage & communicate vendor barge & rail shipment at all locations and manage barge transportation at select locations
