POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for leading procurement and demand planning functions directly associated with Alcom’s Winslow, ME, manufacturing site. Execution of PO placement for various spend areas such as, raw materials, fixed assets, tooling, and outside services. Ensuring these products and services are secured at the best cost, quality, and delivery. The position supports the timely planning, scheduling of receipts and inventory control of the products as assigned. In connection with demand planning to support the production schedule of the facility. Using your experience working in a manufacturing environment to aid in best practice development. Supplier engagement at the local level to build and retain great partnerships, driving cost, quality and timely delivery of products.
FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute procurement of various product categories as assigned by the supervisor. Such as, but not limited to, MRO, Office Supplies, PPE, raw materials and general hardware for plant manufacturing. Other categories are assigned by your supervisor.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production to ensure materials are available per the production schedule.
- Coordinate requests for credit applications and negotiate applicable terms and conditions.
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and exceptions with Finance promptly.
- Assist in the resolution of issues related to delivery, quality, or pricing with suppliers.
- Facilitate the process of obtaining quotes and/or bids from potential suppliers.
- Foster and maintain relationships with vendors of assigned sites. Ensure that suppliers’ commitments are met and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support group purchasing strategies as we look to make product adjustments that can impact all manufacturing sites.
- Analyze and report on purchasing trends, inventory levels and supplier performance.
- Compile and analyze data to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve purchasing processes, and ensure product availability.
- Prepare reports and present the results of data analysis to senior team members, providing actionable insights for decision making.
- Work with other departments like production, sales, logistics and material handling to ensure smooth procurement processes.
- Drive inventory reduction planning for the assigned location. Optimizing material turns and reducing inventory dollars on hand.
Position Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a lead buying role in manufacturing is required.
- Proven experience managing $10M plus in spending.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills are a must.
- Experience working with WMS and ERP systems, driving best practices. Genius ERP experience is considered a plus.
- Experience with Power BI reporting and analysis tools.
- Experience with Microsoft applications. Ability to create and navigate Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to identify and drive relationships (vendor/internal customer), requirements that deliver optimum inventory levels (OIL).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- A positive attitude, a desire to follow directions and a strong willingness to learn.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job operates in an office environment (90%) and within a non-climate.
controlled production/warehouse (10%). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, and filing cabinets. In this role, you may occasionally have the following physical requirements:
- Standing and sitting for long periods
- Frequent walking up and down stairs, around on the production floor and warehouse
- Occasional motions of bending, crouching and twisting
