The duties of the receptionist may include, but are not limited to:

  • Responding to calls on a telephone system to ensure fast and accurate answers to questions from one centralized location.
  • Coordinate additional shifts for administrative personnel, accurately recording hours and wages.
  • Maintain and communicate availability of office personnel by managing and disseminating daily sheets and other.
  • Manage the agency vehicles, ensuring accurate usage and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate in-state and out-of-state lodging and transportation details for employees utilizing private and state resources.
  • Assist employees in completing travel reimbursement forms for timely submission.
  • Ensure accuracy of travel invoices and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors.
  • Submit purchase orders for agency and coordinate with finance department for accurate and timely payments.
  • Greet and assist VIPs and guests as they enter and exit the building.
  • Assist in organization, cleanliness, and record keeping in the Law Library.
  • Communicate with external agencies to ensure effective handling of interagency business.
  • May assist with administrative functions or other tasks within the Office of the Attorney General as directed by a supervisor.

  • Operate phone systems with multiple functions.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Update the office website and interest in mastering additional technology as needed.
  • Articulate ideas clearly and concisely in written and verbal communication.
  • Engage in active listening and respond to others empathetically and tactfully.
  • Connect callers quickly to the right department or personnel.
  • Prioritize large volumes of work.
  • Utilize manual and computer references to answer questions.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
