Summary:

Are you highly motivated to implement effective behavior modification techniques and support plans? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Therapeutic Lifespan Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing active treatment supports and services to individuals with IDD, ensuring their well-being and promoting their independence across various life domains.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interdisciplinary Team Collaboration: As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will contribute to designing support plans across various life domains, including daily living, employment, community integration, and more. Your expertise will be essential in developing individualized teaching service plans and conducting both individual and group sessions as outlined in the Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Crisis Intervention: You will assess and intervene in emergency and crisis incidents using individualized behavior treatment strategies and facility procedures to ensure the safety of both individuals receiving services and staff members. This includes responding to crisis calls, implementing crisis prevention techniques, documenting incidents, and providing support to staff and individuals after an incident occurs.
  • Skills Development and Community Living Support: Your role will involve teaching essential skills to individuals with IDD, promoting positive interactions, and assisting with daily living activities to decrease barriers to community living. You will also provide supervision and support during appointments, activities, and recreational outings.
  • Personal Care and Hygiene: As part of your responsibilities, you will provide direct personal care to individuals supported, implementing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) programs to ensure good health and hygiene. This includes assisting with meals, personal hygiene, toileting, ambulation, and observing individuals for any unusual symptoms, reporting to medical staff as necessary.

  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Have or the ability to acquire Lifeguard Certification

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
    • Bachelor's degree in the human services field, art, physical education, or art education is preferred;
    • experience with coaching, community recreation, aquatic instructors, fitness instructors, camp counselors, etc.;
    • willing to become a certified Special Olympic Coach.

    Knowledge of:
    • counseling methods;
    • principles of basic human behavior;
    • problems experienced by and methods of supervising people with developmental disabilities;
    • CPR and first aid;
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques;
    • medication administration;
    • patient's rights;
    • serious emotional disturbances.

    Ability to:
    • deal effectively with people from diverse ethnic and sociological backgrounds;
    • be a positive role model;
    • observe and understand adolescent and adult behavior;
    • listen to and be empathetic with adolescents and adults;
    • accurately recall information;
    • maintain safety and security in a developmental center;
    • counsel adolescents and adults;
    • provide individual and/or group crisis and de-escalation counseling;
    • direct adolescents and adults in assigned tasks;
    • effectively diffuse potentially explosive confrontations between adolescents and/or adults;
    • plan and organize work by effective time management;
    • communicate effectively to relay information regarding adolescents and adult behaviors and needs;
    • understand adolescents and adult behavior and help them formulate more acceptable responses to situations or problems they encounter;
    • maintain records and prepare reports;
    • coordinate and conduct planned treatment programs;
    • interpret and follow established policies, procedures, operations memoranda, and guidelines.
