JOB SUMMARY

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is seeking an energetic and experienced professional to fill the role of Recreation Program Specialist within our aquatics division. This vital role will help lead experiences, operations, and programming with the indoor Midco Aquatic Center as well as our five outdoor aquatic facilities.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operations of six aquatic facilities by planning, managing, and leading seasonal staff.

  • Plan and lead American Red Cross Swim Lessons, Lifeguard Certification, Recertification, and Water Safety Instructor courses.

  • Plan and lead lifeguard Emergency Procedure training.

  • Develop, organize, and lead aquatic programming including swim meets, special events, and swim lessons.

  • Manage the department’s first aid supplies, ensuring all facilities and programs have adequate supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in recreation, education, or related field; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the field is preferred.

Preferred Certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid, Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Training Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor.

Must be willing and will be required to work a varied schedule including weekends and evening hours on a regular basis depending upon the season and activity.

Must possess or be able to obtain prior to hire a valid driver’s license.
