This purpose of this position is to manage the regulation of certified nurse aides and medication aides for the Board of Nursing. The successful candidate will provide support and leadership to registrants, employers, and the public related to the training, registration, and complaint and discipline processes for nurse aides. This is accomplished by interpretation of laws, rules, as set forth in SDCL 36-9 and ARSD 20:48, and Board actions. Major functions of this position are to investigate charges of misconduct made against registrants, present cases to the Board for final action, and to evaluate and assist training programs with meeting the standards for initial and ongoing approval in South Dakota. This position offers a qualified applicant the opportunity to be involved with a team of nurses and support staff that implement the policies of the SD Board of Nursing for the purpose of public protection as it relates to the practice of nursing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A graduate degree in nursing, experience in the didactic and clinical instruction of pre-licensure nursing education programs or nurse aide training programs, and experience in a long-term care nursing setting. A combination of education and experience that allows for the review, analysis and evaluation of nursing issues relevant to nursing regulation.
Knowledge of:
The training and registration requirements for certified nurse aides and medication aides. Clinical nursing experience in delegation to unlicensed or registered personnel.
Skill to:
- analyze large volumes of medical/nursing information, basic principles and methods of research, and synthesize the information into logical responses to board members and external customers;
- understand state and federal laws and regulations related to nursing licensure, practice, education, and compliance;
- communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and as a presenter for groups;
- use computer program software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
- organize and complete work in an autonomous fashion knowing when to seek consultation;
- lead a nursing training program survey, present oral and written report on recommendations;
- understand nursing investigative review procedures.
Ability to:
- work in a team environment; providing leadership, direction, and guidance on nurse assistant education;
- lead projects relating to nursing assistant training, develop and implement new processes utilizing evidence-informed decisioning;
- represent the Board with external parties;
- prepare and present an annual statistical and narrative report of nursing assistant programs;
- maintain confidentiality;
- work with support staff to implement regulations.
Licenses and Certifications:
South Dakota Registered Nurse license or privilege to practice in the state of South Dakota.
