This is a Full-Time position with the Department of Game, Fish and Parks. For more information on the Department of Game, Fish and Parks, please visit https://gfp.sd.gov/ . The incumbent is responsible for the planning and implementation of management plans on game production areas in the western district of Region 4 in Northeast South Dakota. Other job duties include the writing of agricultural leases, prescribe fire plans and reporting of annual accomplishments. Incumbent will also conduct some field work including spraying of noxious weeds, planting food plots, trees and grass, and general GPA maintenance as well as present at public and state government meetings.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Incumbent will need to acquire a Class A CDL drivers license within 30 days of hire date
  • South Dakota Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator License
  • Fighter Type RXB3 certification

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries or equivalent degree and/or experience.

Knowledge of:
  • Land management techniques and equipment used in the development of habitat for wildlife.

Skill to:
  • Use Windows programs including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;
  • Use mapping software including but not limited to Arcmap, Survey 123, and Arc GIS collector;
  • Work effectively with agency staff, diverse members of the public, and conservation organizations;
  • Formulate Game Production Area Habitat Management Plans;
  • Operate computers and various GIS/GPS technologies;
  • Report Game Production Area Management Plan accomplishments into an electronic database (Wildlife Inventory Land Management Application).

Ability to:
  • Read and comprehend technical material;
  • Organize and present information effectively and in a logical sequence;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other agencies, and the public;
  • Communicate sufficiently to resolve conflicts with staff, the public, and landowners;
  • Meet all deadlines given by supervisor.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
