Reports to: Director, Support Services
Job Summary:
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures that promote a safe work environment and foster a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the organization. This role partners with leadership and employees to identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, implement effective risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, prepares, implements, and manages safety policy, procedures, and guidelines in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules (MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and FRA).
Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee. - Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, incidents, accidents, and health problems.
- Organizes and facilitates safety training programs for employees at all levels to ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and FRA safety standards.
- Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
- Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
- Reviews and investigates all near misses, incidents, and accidents.
Monitors compliance with all safety regulations and standards, including MSHA, OSHA, DOT, FRA. - Manages the selection, procurement, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Maintains accurate records related to safety incidents, training, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Serves as the liaison between the regulatory agencies and ensures timely reporting and compliance with all regulations.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with team members, managers, and vendors.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, DOT and FRA regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience in coaching and training managers in safety best practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of three years of safety manager experience preferred.
- Construction and mining experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather, noise, and dust.
- Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing.
- Must be able to withstand periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
