Job Overview

The Sales Manager leads the inbound sales team and is responsible for converting prospects into new IRA Financial clients. This is a player-coach role: in addition to managing and developing a team of New Account Specialists, the Sales Manager will also be assigned a share of inbound lead volume, carrying out an individual sales goal. This position sets and tracks team KPIs, coaches team members to improve conversion, ensures positive experience for prospective clients from first inquiry through account opening, and works closely with the Chief Marketing Officer to refine lead generation and new client acquisition strategies.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of New Account Specialists, providing daily direction, support, and performance feedback to help them meet or exceed sales goals.

  • Personally work and convert approximately 10-20% of inbound lead volume, assessing prospect needs, explaining products and services, addressing concerns, and guiding prospects through account opening.

  • Meet or exceed an individual sales goal while modeling best practices in prospect communication, follow-up, and conversion for the team.

  • Set clear and achievable sales targets for the team, monitor individual and team performance, and adjust strategies as needed to ensure goals are met.

  • Manage lead distribution and follow-up to ensure every inquiry is contacted promptly and worked consistently.

  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and mentorship to strengthen the team’s sales skills, product knowledge, and client service.

  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, call reviews, and performance evaluations, supporting each team member’s professional development.

  • Ensure a seamless and positive experience for prospective clients from initial inquiry through account opening and handoff to onboarding.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activity in the CRM, provide regular performance reports to leadership, and contribute to sales forecasting.

  • Partner with the Chief Marketing Officer to optimize lead generation, audience segments, and contact strategies, and share feedback on lead quality.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, such as marketing, client onboarding, and client experience, to ensure alignment on goals and a smooth client handoff.

  • Identify opportunities to improve sales processes, tools, and the sales pipeline, and recommend changes to leadership.

  • Other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of sales experience, including at least 2 years in sales management or team lead role, preferably in financial services or a similar industry.

  • Proven success as an individual contributor in inbound sales, with a track record of converting leads and meeting or exceeding sales goals.

  • Proven success leading, coaching, and motivating sales teams.

  • Familiarity with self-directed IRAs, retirement planning, or financial services is a plus but not required.

  • Experience with CRM software (Salesforce preferred), sales tracking tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with prospective clients and team members at all levels.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to set and track sales goals, measure performance, and adjust strategies for optimal results.

  • Ability to balance managing a team with working an individual book of leads.

  • Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to work and lead effectively in a remote or in-office setting.
