SD-STARS is a Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) that securely consolidates and links educational data from multiple sources to assist in the analysis of educational initiatives. These data are then compiled into easy-to-understand reports and datasets and made available to educational stakeholders, like teachers, superintendents, and the Department of Education within a secure portal.

Join the SD Department of Education We're looking for an individual to fill the
Support and Training Lead position in the Department of Education Data and Research Division, Office of SD-STARS to serve as the primary analyst to engage and lead any work related to supporting users, schools, and Department initiatives. In addition, this position maintains the SD-STARS portal. Successful candidates will have good communication skills, experienced public speaker, knowledgeable about and comfortable with data, and have initiative and enthusiasm to share how SD-STARS can assist educators.
Duties of the position include:
- manage the daily operations and support the users of SD-STARS;
- maintain the SD-STARS portal, including publishing content and overseeing administrative functions;
- promote the use of SD-STARS via communications, conferences, and more;
- develop and deliver professional development opportunities as well as create and maintain resources for users;
- facilitate key stakeholder groups;
- facilitate Power Users in building their understanding of APIs and STARS Analytics;
- brief management and, when appropriate, provide recommendations regarding tasked outcomes;
- maintain a Support and Training Lead handbook.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have: - a bachelor's degree in education or a related field is preferred but not required;
- experience in classroom instruction or educational leadership;
- knowledge of SD-STARS;
- experience with online learning platforms;
- proficient in Office 365 tools (Teams, Publisher, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Stream), along with the ability to teach these skills to others;
- experience with PowerBI, MicroStrategy, using APIs;
- experience with maintaining a web portal is a plus, but not required;
- a process improvement mindset focused on successful execution of agency identified strategies and action plans;
- strong analytical skills;
- computer and data systems expertise;
- capability to implement changes to existing or new systems, procedures, and organizational changes.
Knowledge of:
- best practices regarding professional development of adults;
- experience working with educational data;
- how data can be displayed and used to inform decisions, especially in the educational setting;
- business processes and data collection;
- longitudinal data systems and other state-level educational databases and systems;
- data analysis tools and technologies;
- process improvement methodologies;
- video or streaming software;
- course development and administration;
- project management skills to develop training/planning, documents, schedules;
- expertise in MicroStrategy.

Some travel will be required. Most travel will be in-state travel with the occasional out-of-state travel. The start date for this position is negotiable.
