Secondary Literacy Coach who thrives on collaboration, leads with purpose, and is passionate about empowering educators. REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION LEVEL:Bachelor's Degree in Education required; Reading Specialist Degree preferred. Valid teaching license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience at the 6th-12th grade level, preferably with demonstrated success in improving student literacy.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy, instructional coaching, and data-driven instruction. Experience leading professional development and/or facilitating PLCs. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
CERTIFICATION This position requires a
valid South Dakota teaching certification with endorsements in the content area.

YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAININGSouth Dakota Codified Law 13-42-71 equires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years. Compliance is verified through district accreditation reviews. You will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District.

PROGRAM SUMMARYThe Secondary Literacy Coach is a key instructional leader who supports the implementation of effective literacy practices across all 6th-12th grade content areas and classrooms. The coach will lead and facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), provide targeted training for reading intervention teachers, and offer high-quality professional learning focused on embedding literacy strategies across the curriculum. This position is central to improving student literacy outcomes through data-driven instruction, collaborative planning, and ongoing teacher support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIESLead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)- Facilitate and guide district-wide PLCs focused on secondary literacy instruction and intervention. Ensure alignment of practices, shared goals, and collaborative inquiry.
Support Reading Intervention Teachers- Conduct ongoing training, model instructional strategies, and coach reading intervention teachers to strengthen Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III reading support.
Professional Learning- Design and deliver professional learning sessions to classroom teachers in all content areas, emphasizing literacy integration strategies, and evidence-based instructional practices.
District Literacy Team Leadership- Co-lead the Secondary District Literacy Team, composed of Literacy Coaches and Reading Development Teachers in grades 6th- 12th. Coordinate and facilitate meetings focused on:
- Analyzing student literacy data
- Planning and delivering content-specific literacy PD
- Leading the selection and design of instructional programs and lessons that are responsive to identified student needs.
Data Analysis and Instructional Planning- Collaborate with teachers to analyze assessment data, identify trends and gaps in literacy performance, and plan targeted instructional responses.
Instructional Coaching and Modeling- Provide micro-teaching, co-teaching, and demonstration lessons to support teacher implementation of literacy strategies in their content areas.
Collaboration and Communication- Partner with administrators, instructional leaders, and staff to build a strong literacy culture. Communicate effectively to ensure consistency of literacy practices across the 6th-12th grade level.
PAY INFORMATIONStarting at $52,821 to $59,485 per year, based on experience.
