Job Description
Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) is offering a student internship in our security services department. The position will work 1:1 with a security officer, providing support to the safety and security team while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for clients, staff, and visitors. Under direct supervision, the intern will assist with routine security rounds, incident response, and safety initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in healthcare security, crisis intervention, and facility safety management. The role will be primarily positioned at The CORE Center, which provides 24/7 crisis care services for youth and adults, while also performing duties at the EBEL Recovery Center, which provides substance use treatment and detoxification services for adults.

Essential Functions:
- Assist security staff with monitoring facility entrances, exits, and common areas to ensure safety and compliance with policies.
- Conduct supervised safety and security rounds of residential and outpatient buildings.
- Support staff during behavioral emergencies by observing de-escalation techniques and providing assistance as directed.
- Assist with incident reporting, documentation, and review of security logs.
- Shadow staff during drills (fire, severe weather, medical emergencies, etc.) and contribute to after-action evaluations.
- Learn and apply safety protocols related to contraband prevention, visitor management, and emergency procedures.
- Provide respectful and professional interactions with clients, visitors, and employees in a trauma-informed manner.
- Participate in training related to mental health awareness, crisis intervention, and workplace violence prevention.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the safety team.
Required Licensure/Certification and Experience/Abilities:
- Current enrollment in a criminal justice, law enforcement, public safety, or related degree/certificate program.
- Strong interest in mental health, healthcare safety, or law enforcement careers.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and staff teams.
- Must pass background screening requirements per agency policy.
