Join Our Team as a Security Technician!
Workplace by Direct is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Security Technician to join our team in Sioux Falls, SD. In this role, you’ll support cybersecurity operations across both traditional IT environments and Operational Technology (OT) environments, including industrial systems and connected infrastructure.
You’ll play a key role in monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats while helping maintain secure, high-performing environments for both internal systems and our managed services clients. This is a hands-on, growth-oriented role ideal for someone looking to build and expand their cybersecurity expertise across both IT and emerging OT domains.

Key Responsibilities
Security Operations & Incident Response
- Monitor, detect, and respond to security alerts and incidents across IT and OT environments
- Investigate, contain, and resolve security events, escalating when appropriate
- Analyze system activity, logs, and alerts to identify potential threats or vulnerabilities
- Support incident response efforts and contribute to root cause analysis
Risk Management & Cyber Hygiene
- Perform routine security tasks to identify, mitigate, and prevent risks
- Maintain system health through patching, vulnerability management, and monitoring activities
- Support security best practices across endpoints, networks, and industrial systems
- Assist in maintaining visibility across both enterprise and operational environments
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document incidents, actions taken, and system changes
- Communicate security risks, trends, and recommendations to internal teams and clients
- Support client education and awareness around cybersecurity best practices
Security Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in the implementation of security tools, technologies, and processes
- Support internal and client-facing security initiatives and projects
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve security posture and operational efficiency
Team Collaboration & Development
- Collaborate with help desk, engineering, and security teams to resolve issues
- Contribute to a positive, high-performing team environment
- Continuously develop technical and communication skills
- Share knowledge and support team learning and growth
Qualifications
- 1–3+ years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, or a related technical role
- Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and incident response
- Experience with security tools such as SIEM, endpoint protection (EDR), or monitoring platforms
- Basic understanding of:
- Network security concepts (firewalls, segmentation, protocols)
- Endpoint and system security
- Cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or similar)
- Exposure to or interest in OT/ICS environments, industrial networks, or critical infrastructure (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and documentation abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Preferred Certifications (Optional)
- CompTIA Security+, Network+, or CySA+
- GIAC or other entry-level cybersecurity certifications
