The South Dakota Human Services Center- Administration Department is seeking qualified candidate to share in our mission of service to others. The Human Services Center is a publicly funded behavioral health campus providing services through a variety of programs to those living with mental illness and substance use disorders.

This position performs a combination of professional and secretarial duties, or high-level clerical support duties requiring independent judgement, analysis, and latitude in decision-making and problem-solving to administer assigned programs and to support office functions. Support functions include responding to and routing telephone calls; greeting staff and visitors; providing current information on services provided; opening and routing mail; assisting with provider credentialing process; licensure processes for healthcare facilities; establishing and maintaining computerized or manual files; accessing and retrieving on-line customer information; ordering office supplies; typing various forms of correspondence. In conjunction with secretarial and clerical support this position manages calendar and meeting schedules for executive staff.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

High School diploma or equivalent education.

Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:

  • general office procedures;
  • record keeping procedures;
  • formal meeting procedures and documentation i.e. notes, minutes, agendas;
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; concisely provide information, explanations and instructions; and elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand;
  • obtain and provide information by phone in a clear and courteous manner;
  • demonstrate compassion, respect, courtesy, and tact when interacting with others;
  • maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions;
  • organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines for self and other support staff and follow-up with minimal direction;
  • operate office equipment such as a photocopier, fax machine, calculator, scanner;
  • utilize computerized data system (Microsoft Office preferred but not required);
  • independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem.
