This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Social Services. For more information on the DSS, please visit https://dss.sd.gov .
Summary:This position performs general maintenance tasks as a member of the Physical Plant, primarily in the areas of carpentry, cabinetry, flooring, general construction, concrete, locksmithing, painting and preventative maintenance to maintain and preserve the appearance, integrity and efficient operation of the facility. Work assignments are performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. The ability to work in other trade areas and operate equipment is desired. The HSC physical plant is committed to providing the highest standard of service for fellow staff members, patients, and visitors.
Working hours for this position are primarily Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary according to needs of the facility.
Working Conditions: This position involves physical labor, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds over waist and head, working in extreme weather conditions including heat and cold, working off of ladders, scaffold and in mechanical booms.
Licenses and Certifications:Successful candidate must possess valid driver's license.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:- 2-5 years of general carpentry experience.
Knowledge of:
- methods and practices of general building or facility maintenance and repair;
- paint application and general wall finishing techniques;
- building construction, carpentry tools, and all equipment associated with the tasks of this position;
- occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
Ability to:
- enter information in a Digital Work Order Management Software;
- work efficiently and with purpose to complete assigned tasks;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
- follow oral and written instructions;
- be Respectful and Responsible in the work environment;
- hardworking and motivated;
- lift 50 pounds or more;
- operate required tools and equipment;
- work from ladders, scaffolding, and in confined areas;
- assist in other trade areas as necessary.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
