The Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) is seeking a driven, outgoing, and motivated Senior Development Representative to help grow South Dakota's economy. As an experienced leader within GOED's Development Team, the Senior Rep plays a key role in advancing strategic initiatives, cultivating partnerships, and securing high-impact projects that strengthen South Dakota's economy. In this role, you'll work directly with businesses, community leaders, and partners across the state to recruit new companies, support existing ones, and lead projects that make a real impact. You'll also provide leadership to and mentor colleagues, provide strategic insights, and help shape initiatives that strengthen South Dakota's business landscape.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, relationship-driven professional with strong business acumen, problem-solving ability, and a passion for South Dakota's growth.

Frequent in- and out-of-state travel is required. This is a forward facing, hands-on role that requires extensive travel both in and out-of-state.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

2-4 years of progressive experience in sales or business development, economic development, and project management; with 2+ years in a lead, senior, or noticeably higher-responsibility capacity preferred. A network of business contacts is also beneficial.

Knowledge of:
  • principles and practices of finance and economics;
  • Federal, state, community, and private resources useful in providing service to businesses and prospects; and,
  • solid sales and marketing techniques.

Skill to:
  • effectively use the Microsoft suite of tools such as Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.

Ability to:
  • work both independently and in a team environment;
  • create, develop, maintain and leverage relationships;
  • communicate effectively and deliver persuasive presentations;
  • successfully execute cold calling techniques and other forms of proactive outreach;
  • organize time and resources to achieve goals and objectives;
  • effectively identify and pursue opportunities in economic development; and,
  • think outside of the box to encourage economic growth.
