The mission of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is to protect and preserve South Dakota's agriculture, environment, and natural resources. A successful applicant will be a member of both the Air Quality Program and Waste Management Program in DANR. The dedicated staff in both programs work hard to create and sustain a vision for South Dakota that is prosperous and diverse in clean air, clean water, and healthy families. We are seeking individuals with a strong desire to learn and an interest in building a career.
What you will do: As part of the Air Quality and Waste Management Programs, you will play an important role in assisting professional staff to implement regulatory policies to protect human health and the environment. Our teams work with South Dakota businesses, industries, and communities to promote and sustain economic development in an environmentally responsible manner.
Job duties include the following:
- performing assigned professional and clerical tasks to facilitate and support the programs' functions;
- answering and transferring phone calls, email communications, and providing assistance to DANR customers;
- management of correspondence including opening and distrubuting mail, sending mail, and tracking certified mail;
- maintaining computerized and manual filing systems;
- implementing records retention policies;
- scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, and submitting employee reimbursement requests;
- arranging for public notice of important program actions;
- reviewing invoices, paying bills, processing vouchers, and assisting staff with other fiscal duties;
- purchasing, organizing, and distributing staff supplies.

We are looking for candidates that have:
- ability to listen attentively and communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing;
- knowledge of modern office equipment, practices, and procedures;
- knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office;
- knowledge of business English including grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- ability to accurately record, file, and transmit information;
- ability to learn DANR rules, procedures, and functions.
