What You Will Do:
The Senior Secretary will serve as a critical team member within the GFP Licensing Office in Fort Pierre. The position will be focused on the printing of all big game licenses/tags, assisting customers via phone, in-person, and email with issues/errors and questions, monitoring hunting application deadlines, processing hunting license applications, and determining the eligibility of specialty/miscellaneous license applications. This position operates GFP's licensing system effectively and provides exceptional customer service to people that experience system issues/errors. The Senior Secretary will also update licensing resources, provide support to GFP regional offices on tag/license printing and hunting/fishing license questions. This position will review and comprehend applicable laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to hunting and fishing, and manage cash handling procedures/duties within the office.

This position works in a typical office environment where some lifting may be required. Some weekend and evening work will be necessary. This is a Full-Time position with the SD GFP - Wildlife Division. For more information, please visit https://gfp.sd.gov/ .

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • experience with Microsoft 360, computer/internet usage, and knowledge of how to utilize the programs to assist in daily procedures;
  • strong attention to detail;
  • extensive knowledge of GFP's licensing system and new technologies;
  • extensive knowledge of South Dakota's hunting and fishing laws, rules and regulations;
  • extensive experience with data management systems and analyzing large amounts of complex data;
  • strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and ensure high levels of accuracy with data all with aggressive timelines;
  • ability to trouble-shoot and identify errors in system processes and determine appropriate solutions to resolve issues/errors;
  • positive attitude and ability to work as a team member;
  • ability to provide oversight on licensing rules and regulations to the public, license agents, and staff;
  • ability to make good decisions with high profile issues;
  • effectively plan, assign, and organize work activities and prioritize projects to meet deadlines;
  • experience creating and performing trainings to various audiences on multiple platforms;
  • ability to adapt communication style with customer interactions and de-escalate frustrated customers/situations.
