DANR's Office of Water is seeking an exceptionally detail-oriented and personable
Secretary for full-time work in our fast-paced division. This position has the exciting role of being the first line of contact with our customers as we work to fulfill the department's mission. We count on our secretaries to keep the office running smoothly and efficiently, and we currently need a new person to take on the challenge.
Our team is responsible for helping grow South Dakota by working with municipalities, industries, and producers to promote economic development in an environmentally responsible manner. Job Duties include the following:
- Performing assigned professional and clerical tasks to facilitate and support the programs' functions;
- Answering and transferring phone calls, email communications, and providing assistance to DANR customers;
- Management of correspondence including opening and distributing mail, sending mail, and tracking certified mail;
- Scanning documents and maintaining computerized and manual filing systems;
- Implementing records retention policies;
- Scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, and submitting employee reimbursement requests;
- Arranging for public notice of important program actions;
- Reviewing invoices, paying bills, processing vouchers, and assisting staff with other fiscal duties;
- Purchasing, organizing, and distributing staff supplies.

- Knowledge of modern office equipment, practices, procedures, computer systems and applications such as Windows 11 and Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Teams.
- Skill to provide excellent customer service to the citizens of the state and to our staff.
- Ability to listen attentively and communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at a time and effectively manage your time.
- Ability to work effectively with a team of scientists, engineers and administrative staff to help meet DANR goals.
