Job Description

Position Summary
The Shipping Technician is responsible for tracking, maintaining, inspecting, and moving company equipment safely and efficiently. This role supports the Sales and Parts departments by coordinating equipment delivery, organization, and demonstration while ensuring the equipment yard and workspace remain clean, orderly, and customer ready.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, ship, and transport equipment, ensuring accurate documentation for all movements.
  • Maintain the equipment yard to present a professional, customer-friendly appearance.
  • Assist Sales team with organizing inventory, preparing units for demonstration, and coordinating delivery.
  • Perform tasks assigned by Sales, Parts, or Service managers promptly and accurately.
  • Report needed service work or safety concerns to the Rental Coordinator or Service Manager immediately.
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment; operate trucks, forklifts, and other necessary machinery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in compliance with company/shop policies.
  • Support cleaning and basic service (fluids levels) of equipment as requested.
  • Participate in training opportunities to expand technical skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct yourself professionally when interacting with customers to promote a positive image of DMI.
  • Your working hours will be from store open till store close, which varies from winter to summer, Monday-Friday.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work cooperatively with all DMI personnel to ensure smooth operations.
  • Communicate changes, issues, or opportunities affecting operations to the Rental Coordinator.
  • Accountable to the Rental Coordinator for fulfilling responsibilities and meeting performance expectations.

Performance Measures

  • Customer satisfaction with shipping and equipment handling.
  • Quality, accuracy, and timeliness of assigned responsibilities.
  • Efficiency, adherence to safety standards, and compliance with company policies.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor work environments with exposure to noise, vibration, moving machinery, and weather.
  • May involve exposure to fumes, dust, oils, chemicals, and other atmospheric conditions; oxygen mask use may be required.

Equipment & Tools

Operates a variety of hand, power, air, hydraulic, and welding tools; diagnostic meters; hoists, cranes, trucks, forklifts, pressure washers, paint sprayers, and related shop equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Workload: Very heavy—lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs consistently.
  • Mobility: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motion.
  • Visual Acuity: Precise close-range inspection, machine operation, and safe mobile equipment handling.
  • Auditory: Clear hearing for communication and safety awareness.
