Job Description – Shop Carpenter

Job Description: The Shop Carpenter is a hands-on production employee responsible for cabinet assembly, CNC router operation, edge bander operation, and custom woodworking. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, safe equipment operation, and the ability to work independently while supporting the shop team.

Key Responsibilities:
• Production Cabinet Assembly: Build and assemble cabinets, casework, and related components according to shop drawings, cut lists, and project requirements.
• CNC Router Operation and Maintenance: Set up and safely operate the CNC router using approved programs, tooling, and materials. Verify machine settings and inspect the first completed part before production runs.
• Edge Bander Operation and Maintenance: Set up and safely operate the edge bander. Verify banding material, adhesive, temperature, feed settings, trimming, and finished edge quality.
• Custom Woodworking: Fabricate custom trim, fixtures, templates, built-ins, and one-of-a-kind components using appropriate woodworking tools and equipment.
• Quality Control: Inspect materials, machined parts, and completed assemblies for dimensions, square, fit, finish, function, and compliance with project requirements.
• Tool, Equipment, and Shop Care: Complete routine operator-level cleaning and maintenance. Keep tools, machines, benches, aisles, and material storage areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Shop Drawings and Problem Solving: Read shop drawings, blueprints, sketches, cut lists, and written instructions. Verify measurements and ask questions when information is incomplete or conflicting.
• Material Handling and Deliveries: Safely receive, identify, organize, protect, load, and unload materials, cabinet parts, and finished products.
• Field Support as Needed: Assist with deliveries, field measurements, installation support, or other jobsite work when assigned.
• Other Duties: Complete timecards and required production records, communicate problems promptly, and perform other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

Qualifications
• Experience in cabinet production, architectural millwork, finish carpentry, CNC woodworking, or a related shop environment.
• Skill in safely operating and maintaining a CNC router, edge bander, and common woodworking tools.
• Familiarity with cabinet construction, woodworking techniques, sheet goods, lumber, hardware, adhesives, and safety standards.
• Familiarity with Solid-Surface materials
• Ability to maintain consistent production while protecting quality and limiting material waste.
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to read shop drawings, blueprints, cut lists, and a tape measure accurately and use basic shop math.
• Acts with integrity and professionalism.
• Three or more years of relevant woodworking or cabinet production experience is preferred.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds; use team lifting or material-handling equipment for heavier or awkward items.


Training:
• All Cosand employees will be trained for their level of employment and applicable safety requirements. Training may include on-the-job instruction, classroom training, and equipment-specific qualification. Cosand Construction will provide required safety equipment and PPE for assigned tasks.

Compensation & Benefits:
• Compensation
o Base: $25-$28 /hr
o Bonus: Based on profitability of shop-performed work
