Feeding South Dakota, the state's largest charitable hungry relief organization, is seeking to hire a Programs Director at its Sioux Falls, SD location.

Job Summary

The Programs Director at Feeding South Dakota is responsible for overseeing and driving the strategic direction of all food distribution programs and partner network relations. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and collaborating closely with the leadership team, this role requires a relational leader with experience in change management, program development, and enhancing partnerships to ensure the effective and equitable distribution of food across a large rural state.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership, developing and executing plans for all food distribution programs in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of an enhanced program framework aimed at developing partner capacity and improving food access in rural and tribal communities.
  • Manage Feeding America and health department compliance process to ensure ongoing feasibility of agency partnerships.
  • Lead periodic community needs assessment to identify challenges and opportunities for achievement of the organizational mission.
  • Lead the organization’s initiatives to enhance understanding of food security needs in counties across the state and with the team, develop effective placed-based program options.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to ensure cost-effective program delivery without compromising quality or impact.
  • Directly oversee and manage a team of program managers and coordinators responsible for various initiatives.
  • Establish annual work plans, set objectives, define performance metrics, and monitor progress to support organizational objectives.
  • Work cross functionally with department leaders and leadership team to inform and ensure culturally appropriate and healthy food options needed in communities across the state.
  • Collaborate closely with the operations teams to provide input and information for efficient program deliveries and distributions.
  • Lead initiatives for process improvements within food distribution programs and foster strong relationships with partners to enhance collaboration.
  • Support and build capacity of our state-wide network of partners and programs by providing guidance, collaboration opportunities and assistance.
  • Oversee budget development and ensure adhere to budgetary constraints within program areas.
  • Ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements in coordination with the grants administrator.
  • Provide regular opportunities for team development and skill enhancement.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Feeding South Dakota.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in program management, preferably within a nonprofit or community-focused organizations
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams.
  • Experience in change management.
  • Experience in budget development, adherence, and grant/contract compliance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.
