Department: Information Technology
Reports to: IT Manager

Job Summary:
The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, support, and continuous improvement of business applications and systems used throughout the organization. This role serves as a technical resource for business users, develops custom solutions that improve operational efficiency, and supports the integration and administration of critical business systems.
The Software Engineer works closely with business departments, software vendors, and the IT team to ensure applications are secure, reliable, well-documented, and aligned with business objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• No direct reports

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Administer and support enterprise business applications, including JD Edwards and other mission-critical systems.
• Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate resolution with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Manage application upgrades, testing, patches, and maintenance activities.
• Document system configurations, procedures, and support processes.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain custom applications, reports, integrations, and automation solutions.
• Develop solutions that improve business processes and eliminate manual tasks.
• Maintain existing custom-developed applications and interfaces.
• Follow established coding standards, documentation requirements, and change management procedures.
• Support and monitor IBM i (AS/400) environments and related applications.
• Assist with system performance, monitoring, security, and operational reliability.
• Work with software vendors and infrastructure staff on upgrades and enhancements.
• Develop and maintain business reports, dashboards, queries, and data extracts.
• Support data integrity and consistency across enterprise systems.
• Assist users with data analysis and reporting requirements.
• Provide advanced application support for end users.
• Assist with diagnosing and resolving complex system and business process issues.
• Create documentation and training materials for users.
• Conduct training sessions as needed.
• Participate in application implementation, migration, and enhancement projects.
• Assist with requirements gathering, testing, documentation, and deployment activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Follow company cybersecurity, data protection, and change management policies.
• Maintain appropriate access controls within supported applications.
• Assist with audits, system reviews, and compliance initiatives as required.
• Follows all company safety and enviornmental policies and federal regualtions.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience troubleshooting complex business and technical issues.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Experience in one or more of the following: IBM i (AS/400) administration and development, RPG, RPGLE, CL, SQL, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Microsoft SQL Server, PowerShell and automation tools, API integrations and data exchange technologies, Microsoft 365 platform, reporting and business intelligence tools, or document management and workflow systems.

Education and Experience:
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Development, or related field; or equivalent work experience required.
• Experience supporting enterprise business applications required.
• Experience with IBM i environments and ERP systems preferred.
• Experience developing business applications and integrations preferred.
• Experience working in manufacturing, construction materials, transportation, or similar industries preferred.

Physical Requirements:
• Primarily office-based work environment.
• Occasional travel to company locations may be required.
• Occasional after-hours support may be necessary during system maintenance, upgrades, or critical incidents.
• Ability to sit, stand, and use standard computer equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
