AVAILABLE POSITIONS: USGA P.J. Boatwright Internship
- Four Interns (Southeastern South Dakota)
- One Intern (Northeastern South Dakota)
Interns will travel the region assisting with Junior Tour operations, SDGA Championships, and administration duties. You will experience a fun and fast paced environment working alongside a quality team. This is a tournament-centric experience for individuals seeking to pursue a career in golf administration.
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: Mid-May to August, 2027 (longer/shorter opportunities may be available).
ABOUT THE SOUTH DAKOTA GOLF ASSOCIATION: The SDGA offers 30 Championships during the summer months and hosts multiple USGA qualifying events. The SDGA Junior Tour consists of over 800 members and 47 events. The association comprises 90 member clubs, over 15,000 individual members, administers the World Handicap System, and conducts course ratings.
SDGA INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
Junior Tour Administration:
- Administering Junior Tour events in Southeast or Northeast region of the state
- Pre-event Administration & Communication, Course Set-up, Starting, and Scoring
- On-site Tournament Operation and Post-event Follow-up
Championship Support:
- Assist in Tournament Administration for SDGA Championships
Additional Responsibilities:
- Registrations and Office Administration
- Communications and Social Media Management
- Course Rating Team Support
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to travel with overnights, work weekends, extended hours, and outdoors
- Self-motivated, strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and desire to be a team player
- Ability to handle conflict situations and communicate effectively with children, parents, and club administrators
- Background in golf and interest in golf administration career path preferred - basic knowledge of Rules of Golf is a plus
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift equipment and spend extended periods of time in outdoor conditions
- Southeast Region Interns - Ability to live in or near Sioux Falls, SD during internship and commute to SDGA Office
- Northeast Region Interns - Live in or near Aberdeen, SD area during internship
COMPENSATION:
- $20.00/hour; plus overtime
- 30-50 hours/week estimated but not guaranteed
- Staff uniforms and gear
- Job-related expenses (meals, lodging, gas, etc.) reimbursed by the SDGA
- Golf privileges
