Job Description
Objective:
Lead sow research trials from concept, to allocation, and execution/data collection within the Pipestone Research Model to answer critical questions for Pipestone Nutrition and sow production teams.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Understand the basics of swine production.
- Work with the Nutrition and Sow Production teams to ensure adherence to research protocols, timelines, and data quality standards.
- Plan, oversee, and participate in data collection related to sow and litter performance, feed intake, and related measurements; maintain accurate and organized records.
- Serve as the primary liaison between field staff and the Nutrition team.
- Manage and analyze research data using Microsoft Excel and Gestal feeding software.
- Identify and resolve research or operational issues to maintain project integrity.
- Prepare and share trial summaries and reports with Nutrition partners and production teams.
- Follow all ethical, confidentiality, and biosecurity protocols.
- Participate in team meetings and training as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in animal science or agriculture related field.
- 1 year of swine experience
- Bilingual
- Sow farm experience
- Research experience
Work Environment:
- Sow farm in rural area and Pipestone office
Physical Requirements:
- Standing, walking and ability to be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day.
- Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling.
- Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull.
- Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-25 pounds.
- Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be willing to work one weekend a month (trial dependent).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Compensation/Benefits:
- $23-$25hr, depending on experience
