Job Description

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Employment Term:      FTE: 1.0 According to school calendar

Location:                       Site to be determined
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Provide appropriate screening and evaluation services to identify speech and language handicapped students.
  • Assess and diagnose language, voice, articulation, and fluency impairment.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with speech, language and  hearing deficits, utilizing appropriate caseload selection, scheduling, follow-up, and dismissal procedures.
  • Lead social skills groups.
  • Assist and guide parents, teachers, and other professionals in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech, language, and hearing impairments.
  • Provide Supervision and Assistance to Speech-Language Pathology Assistants.
  • Submit Medicaid documentation.
  • Obtain physicians orders for service.
  • Serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members regarding speech and language development.
  • Maintain thorough records for the individual student receiving speech, language, and hearing services (including permission forms, test records, diagnostic and final reports, and other records as deemed necessary).
  • Maintain general records containing information appropriate to the compilation of Aberdeen School District, state, and federal reports for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements.
  • Meet all deadlines associate with Special Education regulations and IEP processes.
  • Attend all placement meetings for students entering or continuing in the speech/language and hearing program and assist in writing the IEP.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education/Building Principal/Speech-Language Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:
Master’s degree in an approved speech pathology program and a valid South Dakota Speech-Language Pathology license.
 
Experience Desired:
Experience in the field of speech/language pathology desired.
 
Clearances:
Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
