The
SD State Brand Board is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized
Staff Assistant to provide first point of contact service to livestock brand owners and livestock producers. Our work is to process livestock brand applications, maintain a livestock brand registration system, and conduct livestock ownership inspections as required. This position plays an important role in serving livestock brand applicants and brand owners, assisting the brand recorder with the livestock brand registration program, and performing support for other functions ranging from answering phone calls, to assisting walk ins, responding to inquiries from the public, taking reports of missing livestock, and processing livestock permits.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:- Good communication and public relation skills.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel software.
- An understanding of livestock brands and livestock ownership inspection requirements.
- Adaptability to changing tasks with good organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects.
Knowledge of:
- livestock brands and ownership inspections is beneficial but not required;
- office practices and procedures;
- working with the public;
- Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to:
- greet the public and communicate information clearly and accurately;
- multi-task (may be working on a project, then shift to assisting walk-ins to answering phone calls);
- distribute brand registration forms as needed;
- prioritize work;
- work both independently and as a team member;
- review brand registration documents against requirements.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
