The State Veteran Service Officer/Outreach Coordinator is a valuable member of the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs. This position serves as a liaison to assist Field Veterans Service Officers with outreach events and the training of C/TVSO's throughout the state. The main goal of the position is to locate and set up outreach events but will assist in staffing them when needed. The position will also help facilitate recorded training sessions that will be posted on our training site. Along with this, the position will also help with an SDDVA podcast to help educate veterans and their families on available benefits. The position will be trained as an Accredited Veterans Service Officer and will be able to help veterans and their families in filing claims for state and federal benefits. There will be some travel required with this position. Most travel will be within the state. The incumbent will be assigned to the Field Operations offices located at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance building in Sioux Falls.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:- great communication skills, both verbal and written;
- strong attention to detail and the ability to provide excellent customer service to a variety of people;
- possess and maintain a current South Dakota driver's license;
- a good working knowledge of podcasts and recordings.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: - knowledge of VA and state veteran benefits;
- ability to read and understand VA, state, and federal laws and regulations;
- working knowledge of TEAMS, Facebook, Youtube channels and other social media.
APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENT TO BE CONSIDERED. Requirement: 33A-2-1. Veteran defined. For the purposes of all statutes relating to rights, privileges, ceremonial recognition, exemptions, and benefits (except a state bonus) of veterans and their dependents, the term, veteran, means any person who: - Has served the full obligation for active duty, reserve, or National Guard service in the military, or received an early discharge for a medical condition, hardship, reduction in force, or at the convenience of the military; and
- Has been separated or discharged from such service honorably or under honorable conditions.
Therefore, applicants for this position must submit a copy of their DD214 discharge papers with their application. This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
