Street Foreman – Public Works
The City of Brookings is seeking a Street Foreman to provide front-line leadership within the Public Works Street Division. Under the direction of the Assistant Street Manager and Street Manager, this working supervisor leads crews and participates in daily street maintenance and construction activities, including paving, storm drainage, traffic control, snow and ice removal, and equipment operation.

Wage
- Wage Range $31.37 - $42.44 /hour, depending on qualification and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, assign, and participate in daily street division work
- Lead crews performing paving, drainage, sweeping, snow and ice control, traffic control, and weed/mosquito abatement
- Operate light and heavy equipment while ensuring safe, efficient job sites
- Train, coach, and mentor full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees
- Ensure compliance with safety policies and work zone traffic control standards
- Maintain records related to work activities, time, equipment, and materials
- Respond professionally to citizen inquiries and collaborate with other departments
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of experience in street maintenance and/or heavy equipment operation; lead or supervisory experience preferred
- South Dakota CDL Class A with tanker endorsement
- Ability to obtain required certifications and licenses, including pesticide applicator and APWA Winter Maintenance Supervisor
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to on-call needs
This position requires physical labor, operation of heavy equipment, and a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Pre-employment screening is required.
