Position: Swine Production Consultant
Independence, Iowa area
Focus: Wean-to-Market Production
What You’ll Do
As a Swine Production Consultant, you’ll play a key role in the success of our clients by providing expert support in pig care, site management, and production performance. Your work will directly impact animal well-being and operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver technical support and industry expertise to producers and partners
- Implement wean-to-market best practices to optimize pig flow, performance, marketing, revenue & costs
- Oversee pig care, feed/water systems, ventilation, facilities, and veterinary protocols
- Conduct site visits and document findings
- Select pigs for market loads
- Educate and coach site managers
- Review key production metrics with clients
- Build strong relationships with producers, veterinarians, nutritionists, and internal teams
- Uphold PIPESTONE’s biosecurity, animal welfare & safety standards
- Represent PIPESTONE core values in every interaction
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s in Agriculture or Animal Science (preferred but not required)
- Experience in wean-to-market swine production
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage change and drive results
- Customer service experience is a plus
- Valid driver's license & insurable record
Work Environment
- Nursery & finishing sites in rural locations
- May require hearing protection; exposure to typical swine production environments
Physical Requirements
- On your feet up to 10 hours/day
- Lifting 3–20 lbs frequently, up to 50 lbs occasionally, and up to 100 lbs with assistance
- Ability to drive long distances
- Effective verbal & written communication
