Johnson Feed Inc. is seeking an experienced Truck & Trailer Mechanic to join our Sioux Falls shop team. We are looking for a skilled technician with at least 5 years of hands-on heavy-duty truck and trailer repair experience who can confidently diagnose problems, perform repairs, and help keep our fleet safe and road-ready.
Experience working on Kenworth trucks and Cummins engines is strongly preferred. This position is ideal for an experienced mechanic who takes pride in quality work, has strong diagnostic skills, and is comfortable working independently on a variety of heavy-duty repairs.
What You’ll Do
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Perform engine diagnostics and repairs, with a primary focus on Cummins-powered equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and DOT-related inspections to keep equipment safe and road-ready.
- Diagnose and repair brake, suspension, steering, electrical, air, and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot engine fault codes, electrical issues, and aftertreatment/emissions systems.
- Complete trailer repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Identify equipment issues and recommend appropriate repairs before they result in breakdowns.
- Use diagnostic software, scan tools, and other shop equipment to accurately troubleshoot problems.
- Communicate effectively with the shop foreman and team regarding repairs, parts needs, and equipment status.
- Maintain accurate repair documentation and a clean, safe work environment.
Work Schedule
2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 12:30 PM–9:00 PM
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on heavy-duty truck and trailer mechanic experience required.
- Kenworth truck experience strongly preferred.
- Cummins engine experience strongly preferred.
- Strong diesel engine diagnostic and troubleshooting experience.
- Demonstrated experience with electrical, brake, suspension, air, and aftertreatment systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic software and interpret engine fault codes.
- Ability to independently diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs.
- Technical degree, diesel certification, or ASE certifications are a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing repairs correctly and safely.
- Ability to lift and move heavy tools, equipment, and parts associated with heavy-duty truck repair.
