Job Description

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day trucking operations including dispatch, routing, scheduling, and fleet utilization
  • Ensure on-time delivery performance and high service standards for all customers
  • Monitor key performance indicators including cost per mile, fuel usage, and driver productivity
  • Develop and implement operational improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and state transportation regulations
  • Maintain driver qualification files, Hours of Service (HOS) compliance, and safety records
  • Lead safety programs, training, and incident investigations
  • Partner with third-party vendors or internal staff on audits and inspections

Financial Management

  • Manage budgets, operating costs, and profitability targets
  • Review financial reports including revenue, margins, and expenses
  • Control fuel, maintenance, and labor costs while maintaining service quality
  • Support pricing strategies, bids, and contract negotiations

People Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage drivers, dispatchers, and support staff
  • Set performance expectations and conduct regular coaching and evaluations
  • Address employee relations issues, discipline, and retention strategies
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork

Customer & Business Development

  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers and brokers
  • Resolve service issues and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Identify growth opportunities including new lanes, contracts, or partnerships
  • Represent the company professionally in the marketplace

Fleet & Asset Management

  • Oversee maintenance schedules and fleet condition to minimize downtime
  • Coordinate repairs, inspections, and equipment replacements
  • Ensure proper utilization of trucks, trailers, and related assets

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or trucking operations
  • 2+ years of leadership or management experience preferred
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Experience working with shippers, brokers, or 3PLs preferred
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and transportation software
  • Experience with small to mid-sized fleet operations strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), ELD systems, and compliance tools
  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
