Role Overview
We are seeking a Facilitator to help support veteran Talking Circles connected to VA Black Hills in South Dakota. The facilitator will help create a safe, respectful environment where veterans can share experiences, build connection, and support one another.

This role is grounded in trust, listening, and community-first values. The ideal candidate brings strong people skills, respect for veteran lived experience, and the ability to hold space for meaningful and sometimes sensitive conversations. This role may also involve working alongside American Indian and Alaska Native veteran communities and community partners, with cultural humility and respect.

Location Requirement
Candidates must be based in or able to reliably travel to VA Black Hills and nearby community locations in western South Dakota, including the Black Hills / Rapid City area.

 

Job Requirements
What You Will Do
-Support and facilitate veteran Talking Circles in a respectful and culturally aware way
-Help create safe, confidential, and welcoming spaces for veterans
-Build trust and relationships within the veteran and local community
-Follow partner guidance, cultural protocols, and community leadership
-Listen to community needs and share feedback to help strengthen programming

What We Are Looking For
-Veteran lived experience, or strong experience working alongside veteran communities
-Experience facilitating groups, peer spaces, support circles, or community gatherings
-Strong listening skills and the ability to hold space for emotional or sensitive conversations
-Cultural awareness and respect when working with Native communities
-Willingness to learn from community leaders and local guidance
-Reliable transportation and ability to travel within western South Dakota

Helpful but Not Required
-Peer Support Specialist certification, or interest in obtaining it
-Experience working with Tribal or Indigenous communities
-Background in peer support, community health, behavioral health, or social services
-Familiarity with Talking Circle or similar community-based group models

Compensation
-Facilitation is compensated at $35 per session. Travel is reimbursed separately for eligible travel, up to 200 miles.
